I did some tests for my portrait project. I cropped them all to 4x5 to reflect how they will be proportioned in the final result. I like the ones that show full body and a little more environment, especially the last two. I also like having a variety of back, front, and profile. I'm still trying to think of an exact method for interacting with people as necessary from the roof while they're on the ground. I'm thinking texting. I'd appreciate any feedback.

I think they look better when the feet don't get cut off, and texting seems like a good idea
ReplyDeleteeither that or you could actually call us, get us exactly how you want us, and then hang up and shoot.
i really enjoy the voyeuristic aspect of this! the fact that you could stage it and it might actually look real. i'm thinking something about the sontage reading had an indirect influence here which is GREAT...
ReplyDeletei agree that full length is better - avoid awkward cropping. you need to keep the iso hight enough so you can get at least 1/125th second shutter speed, to freeze the action and a tripod is essential to keep that lens steady.
i'd also like to see at least a profile of each classmate so they're all relatively identifiable.
you might try to arrange to shoot this before monday morning's class, get everyone to show up 1/2 hour early so you have time to shoot everyone. my suggestion would be to have someone on the ground to assist; keep them on the phone and direct everyone through them.
